Adding ‘new twists’ to old tunes was the starting point for MOJ. Old hymns, established spirituals and traditional carols, provide the backbone for much of their repertoire…
…which incorporates a variety of jazz styles from swing to latin, rock to reggae and ballad to blues.
Sitting alongside this output, MOJ also compose original music which contrasts with their hymn jazz.

MOJ record in the studio, as well as capture live performance on location.
MOJ play simultaneously in all recordings with close stereo mic positioning for the sax and ‘line in’ for the stage piano. The bass that can be heard in many recordings is played ‘live’ via the split keyboard.

In gigs, the Roland stage piano is put through a 300-watt Nano amplifier with stereo satellite ‘tweeter’ pods.
In the studio, the multi-track Zoom Hn4 recorder is capable of mixing both sax and piano at 96000 Hz.
Every aspect of post production, from audio and video editing to associated album design and artwork, is undertaken by Ministry of Jazz.
